Quick Thoughts

In No Particular Order:

  • Putting 10 eggs in a boiling pot of water won’t get you a hard boiled egg in 1 minute. Some things take time.
  • When we discover something, it was always there we just finally noticed it.
  • We are often contradicted by future versions of ourselves.
  • It’s good to learn your scales along side the Nashville Number system.
  • Nobody is going to practice for you.
  • To know what note an extension represents i.e. a 9th just subtract 7. Meaning a 9th is just a 2nd played in an upper register.
  • “Music” exists in every culture, even birds. What was it called before the Greeks? Muse(s) are part of the pantheon of Greek god(s). Surely other people have words to describe song, harmony and the like that didn’t insert Greek goddesses into worship and celebration or even mourning.
  • Try not to confuse personal decline with aging, correlation doesn’t equal causation.
  • Harmony is bigger than the “music industry”.
  • Tonal music refers to music based on tones of a scale, music with a home scale is tonal. Thinking of it this way keeps you out of the mire that is genre.
